How Do I Support My Students To Perform?

I tend to support my guitar students with performance anxiety by creating a nurturing environment and employing practical strategies. I start with low-pressure performances, encouraging them to play for family or friends before larger audiences. Emphasizing thorough preparation, I incorporate performance practice into our lessons. I teach relaxation techniques like deep breathing and visualization and provide consistent positive feedback to build their confidence. Developing a pre-performance routine helps offer them a sense of control. I normalize anxiety by explaining that it’s common among musicians and encourage peer support through group classes or ensemble performances. These approaches generally help my students manage anxiety and gain confidence as performers.
